Bus Departs - 6:30 PM from
7739 16th St., N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20012

This Christmas marks our Thirty-Second year of providing baskets of food to families of needy school-aged children. Because of hard economic times, it appears that more families are in need of our support. We hope to provide at least 100 baskets this year. Baskets will be delivered to the Cleveland Elementary School.

Dress warmly and arrive early to deliver your basket (plastic container with lid) containing at a minimum the following:

  • 1 Turkey (10lbs or more)
  • 5lbs Greens (fresh, canned or frozen)
  • 5lbs Sweet Potatoes
  • Rice & Peas
  • 2 dozen Rolls

The purpose of the minimum requirement is to ensure that each basket of food will service a family of four. Feel free to include any other sustaining foods, i.e. cranberry sauce, dressing, fruit, carrots, beets, corn, tomatoes, peanut butter, celery, rice, cereal and canned goods. Candy, nuts and ornaments are okay also. Just remember that growing children are always hungry. Participation in the Hayride is a wonderful way to begin the Christmas holidays. We encourage everyone to ride with us to deliver the baskets. The bus will depart 7739 16th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. We will proceed to the Cleveland Elementary School located at 1825 8th & T Street, N.W., to deliver the food. During the Hayride we play Christmas games and enjoy singing Christmas songs on the bus en-route to and from delivering the food. After delivering the food baskets and having a moment of fellowship with the families at the schools, we then go to the ellipse to view the National Christmas Tree Pageantry. After serving refreshments, we return to the place of departure.

Please call Tony Towns at 202/210-8231 (mobile) to confirm your seat reservations ASAP, but no later than December 13, 2013. Over 100 families are depending on your support this year.
